A Week With Casinacho: The Casual Game That Snuck Up On Me
I almost skipped Casinacho. The store screenshots looked like every other bright casual game, and I'd played a hundred of those. But a reader kept asking about it, so I put it on my test phone and told myself I'd give it twenty minutes. That was a week ago.
The core is a matching game, but the hook is the town square you slowly rebuild as you clear boards. Somehow watching a fountain appear did more for me than any points counter ever has. It gives each session a point beyond the score, and that's rare for the genre.
Controls deserve a mention because so many casual games get them wrong. Casinacho is one-thumb friendly all the way through, tiles respond the instant you tap, and there's a nice tactile snap when a group clears. I played it half-asleep and never mis-tapped, which is high praise.
On the technical side it behaved itself. Battery drain was low, the phone stayed cool, and nothing stuttered even on a mid-range device. If you like a game you can dip into for a few minutes at a time, this is an easy one to keep on your home screen.
My advice: don't rush the later boards. A couple of them reward a bit of planning, and slowing down is where the game gets quietly clever.
